Wookey Hole Mac and Cheese

Ingredients:

-1 (8 ounce) box of cavatappi macaroni

-¼ cup of butter

-¼ cup of all-purpose flour

-½ teaspoon of salt

-Ground black pepper to taste

-2 cups of milk

-2 cups of shredded Wookey Hole cheese

-Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cooking the Cavatappi:

    • Bring a large pot of water with a pinch of salt to a boil. Add the cavatappi macaroni and cook it, stirring occasionally. Keep an eye on it to ensure it's cooked through but still firm to the bite, which should take about 8 minutes.

  2. Preparing the Cheese Sauce:

    • While the macaroni is cooking, start the cheese sauce. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

    • Once the butter is melted, add the flour, salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir the mixture continuously until it becomes smooth. This process should take around 5 minutes.

    • Gradually pour in the milk, continuing to stir to prevent lumps from forming. Keep stirring and cooking until the mixture becomes smooth and starts to gently bubble. This should take about 5 minutes. Be mindful to avoid letting the milk burn.

  3. Adding the Wookey Hole Cheese:

    • Lower the heat and add the shredded Wookey Hole cheese to the saucepan. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth, which should take approximately 2 to 4 minutes.

  4. Combining Macaroni and Cheese Sauce:

    • Once the macaroni is cooked, drain it well and then add it to the saucepan with the Wookey Hole cheese sauce. Gently fold the macaroni into the sauce until it's well coated.

  5. Garnish and Serve:

    • Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a serving dish. If desired, garnish with fresh thyme for an aromatic touch.

    • Serve hot and enjoy the creamy and flavorful blend of cavatappi macaroni with the rich Wookey Hole cheese sauce.
